The eights precept asks one to abstain from entertainment and music as it may distract from the path of liberation, and this may be true for a large amount of music.
However over the years it has been found that at least some forms of music are benficial for liberation, such as chanting. Christianity (a school of Buddhism) also has a rich musical tradition for spreading the teachings. There are even some Buddhist Dhamma music radio stations.
In the spirit of making the teachings more accessible in the form locals are used to, here are some songs, some of which are popular, and others of which are original, that have had their lyrics created or amended so they are inline with the teachings.
